The “Bachelor in Paradise” contestant accused of sexually assaulting a woman on set declined to address the allegations against him, saying only that the alleged victim is “an awesome girl.”
The reality TV personality said the woman — whose name is being withheld because she may be a victim of rape — is an “awesome girl” in a video posted by Entertainment Tonight in his first time speaking publicly since the show suspended production over the weekend, but he stayed silent on allegations that he took advantage of the female contestant, who may have been too drunk to consent to any sexual activity.
“I have nothing to say. You know, [she’s] an awesome girl and that’s all I have to say,” he said outside of a Starbucks in L.A, where he also thanked fans for their support.
TMZ also caught Jackson out in L.A. around the same time where he repeatedly said “no comment” and would not respond when asked if ABC told him not to talk.
‘Bachelor in Paradise’ contestant thought ‘everything was fine’
A source described the encounter between the pair to the Los Angeles Times, detailing that the woman was drunk before the two got naked and entered the pool and were “very raunchy,” describing it as “soft core porn.” Entertainment Tonight and TMZ both reported that Jackson wants footage of the pair’s time together in the pool in Puerto Vallerta, Mexico to be released because he believes it will clear his name and that what happened has been blown out of proportion.
A producer filed a complaint about the incident after becoming concerned the female contestant was too drunk to consent to any activity in the pool with Jackson during the first day filming at the Mexico resort.
It was later reported that the producer did not witness the encounter first hand and did not view the footage, but rather heard accounts of the story second or third hand, a source told E! News.
Jackson reportedly thinks the tapes will show the female contestant was lucid when they were in the pool together and that he did nothing wrong when they engaged in some type of sexual activity, according to TMZ.
‘Bachelor in Paradise’ member ‘doesn’t remember’ alleged assault
Witnesses at the Playa Escondida resort told TMZ that the female appeared wasted after exiting the pool and was slurring, stumbling and wearing her clothing inside out. Producers allegedly took alcohol away from the female contestant the following day and told her she could no longer drink, Us Weekly reports.
Warner Bros., the company behind production of “Bachelor in Paradise,” said in a statement to the Daily News that it is aware of allegations of misconduct and therefore suspended production.
“We are conducting a thorough investigation of these allegations. Once the investigation is complete, we will take appropriate responsive action,” the statement continued.
A rep for the company told The News that no authorities are involved in an investigation and that only the network is looking into what may have occurred.
